Eating for healthy teeth!
Here’s how you can help your kids build healthy teeth from the inside.
Strong and healthy teeth are built just the same way as a strong immune system or healthy bones: it’s all about what you put in. Giving children the correct balance of nutrition is every bit as important as teaching them to brush and floss.
Teeth LOVE these foods
Coconut oil will not only help protect your teeth against bacterial rot, but it will also help improve digestion and metabolism, promote heart health, boost energy levels, and strengthen immunity Since ingesting coconut oil converts it into a powerful bacteria-fighter, "swishing" coconut oil can also promote improved oral health via the enzyme activity of its mixing with saliva.
Toothpaste recipe
6 tbsp coconut oil
6 tbsp baking soda
25 drops essential oil (whatever you prefer— I like eucalyptus and grapefruit)
1 tsp stevia (or more if you like it sweeter)
Make brushing teeth and flossing fun, and introduce little ones to the dentist as soon as you can – make it a normal part of their lives. Here’s to STRONG teeth!

- Cheese, especially aged cheeses like Parmesan, Swiss or cheddar, help to trigger the saliva flow and rinse the mouth. Serve it at lunch-time or as a snack during the day.
- Fresh fruits and vegetables that contain lots of water, such as peaches, pears, melons, strawberries, cucumber and celery are great snacks for during the day. Serve stickier fruit, like bananas and dried fruit, for mealtimes or before it’s time to brush teeth.
- Make plain water a normal part of your drinks menu and get the children used to it. Juices, milk and fizzy drinks all contain sugars that can harm teeth.
- Sticky, clingy or chewy foods just get trapped between the teeth. Sure, kids love jellybeans, raisins, health bars, oat cookies, toffees and dates – even savoury snacks like nachos get stuck between the teeth. Save these foods for the table as the mouth produces more saliva at mealtimes which helps to wash food away from kids’ teeth.
- Avoid putting toddlers to bed with a bottle filled with formula, milk or juice – rather opt for plain water.
